With Horseshoe Creek Outfitters you have many choices for waterways to
fish. We are bordered on three sides by major rivers. The Peace River or
the "Mighty Peace" to the south is Canada's seventh largest river, flowing
east north east to the Arctic Ocean. Alexander Mackenzie traveled this river
west on his route to the Pacific. They named it the Peace for good reason,
its gently flowing waters gives fishers and boaters a lazy day of fishing.
Fishers have experienced catching up to five species of fish in one day on
this river. There are small rapids as well as many islands to stop and
explore and waterfalls abound to catch the eye and your interest. Views
of the hills or the Peace breaks as they're known locally, and the surrounding
farmlands are breathtaking. The Peace valley is one of the most photographed
areas in British Columbia. **
The Halfway River is our border to the east. This river is more challenging for
our river boaters, however fishers show good results from shore as well as boat
trips.
The Graham River flows east into the Halfway, and is a natural divider to the
hunting country. This more shallow and quick flowing river is great for shore
fishing. The Graham has some of the best Grayling fishing in the world. The
pools where the Graham and Halfway meet have shown great results for fishers.
The Chowade (Chow-odd-eh) River is our northern boundary. Residents enjoy
fishing here, and it shows great results for catch and release. Due to the
many restrictions and the August 15 season closure on the fishing here we
don't use this river often. The Chowade is a wading river made impassible by
the many sweepers falling into the river channel. This swift flowing river
boasts great pools of Bull trout in July and early August. This remote
wilderness waterway spills into the Halfway to the east where some of the
most remote and northerly ranching operations in Canada flourish on the river
bottom lands.
At Horseshoe Creek you can fly fish, cast from boat or shore and enjoy Bull and
Lake Trout, Rainbows, Grayling, Pike, Whitefish and Dollys to name some of our
northern species. Many travel here for a few days of rest and relaxation in the
summer sun. In choosing the North Peace as a fishing destination you're choosing
a low key vacation away from the hustle and bustle of urban life. Visit the
Peace and take home memories of a once in a lifetime experience.
** The Peace River is currently the topic of a controversial proposed Hydro
Dam Project on the river. Many local, regional and national organizations
and individuals are opposed to this project. Horseshoe Creek Outfitters is
working with Northern BC Guides association, Peace Valley Environmental and
Moberly First Nations to bring awareness to the Peace Rivers plight. If you
are interested in lending your voice against this heritage river being the
site of a THIRD hydro dam, please contact us and we can give you more
information on contacts.
