Horseshoe Creek Outfitters has completed its 21st season. Our compliments and thanks to those clients who repeatedly
turn down young bucks and bulls in hopes of harvesting a more mature or superior trophy. Every year it is our goal to
maintain and enhance the wildlife populations within the area. Our guides worked hard each and every day to get animals
for clients, and there were many positive comments on their behalf. There is positive feedback every season regarding
the dedicated work ethic Ray puts forth on behalf of his clients and many have experienced that drive first hand.
Whether it be bringing a bull Elk in just steps away or tracking an animal to all hours, he won't quit until the job is
done.
Some of the highlights of 2012 included the Thomas brothers. Their

humour came through even before their arrival in
Fort St. John. Their horseplay continued was tested however when on the first day of the hunt, Greg had an opportunity
to harvest a Moose at 87 steps with his 45-70 Sharps. We were already concerned at the target range! The rifle
misfired, leaving the bullet in the barrel and their hunt was over for the morning. There was lots of #@%*#%, but
mostly by brother Brian as it wasn't HIS turn until Greg got an animal. They gave up on this deal and Brian went on
to get a great trophy Moose and Elk. Greg however was to take the #1 Elk in the North for 2012 at 379 4/8". Guided by
Jeff, they took the Elk one evening after Jackson's bow hunter Hal told him to give it up to Greg, the rifle hunter.
A great example of good sportsmanship.

Peter's Black Bear went #3 in the North at 19 12/16 and his Grizzly went #3 as well at 24 10/16. His Black Bear was
definitely larger than the one he got with his bow with Matthew a few years ago. He can add these impressive trophies
to his two Moose and Elk as well as Deer(s) he's gotten in years past. He's wanted that Grizzly for a long time, and
had been waiting his turn for a few years for the tag to be his. He lost his long time mentor and hunting partner
Matthew this year at the age of 94. Matthew was very obviously the elder in camp in the four years he was here.
Matthew's first visit was at the age of 89, and you can imagine our hesitance in booking him. He arrived strong, tall
and fit and more than proved his mettle in the following years. When Ray told me that he was wanting to book after
that first year, I still remember my comment 'Well, that's optimistic!'. Matthew went on to receive a GOABC award a
few years ago and we repeatedly reassured him it was NOT for being the oldest hunter in BC. Matthew Carpenter
will be well remembered and missed.

Cades brought Cadesman up for his graduation present in spring and the young man got two bears. One of which made #2
Black Bear in the North at 19 14/16. Cades returned in late October for antlered game, enduring some very unusual and
extreme winter conditions. He ended up taking home a Mountain Lion instead which may go #8 in the world.
Brett finally got his Elk after having his hunt interrupted by David's heart attack last year. Brett was pretty excited
to experience Jackson's ability to bring that Elk in to 17 steps!! David did return this year and was in greatly
improved health.
Young Brock got the hunt of a lifetime granted by his generous Aunt & Uncle. He took home two Black Bears, one of which
was #1 in the North at 20" and a beautiful Cinnamon Bear. Uncle Chris also took home two very nice Black Bears.
We were pleased to have two Canadians in camp this year. Father Don and son Derrick we have to stroke this hunt of a
lifetime off their bucket list. Coming together from two parts of the country, meeting for an early season Elk hunt.
Don was the rifle hunter and took home a 300" Elk leaving Derrick wanting to return with his bow and try again. We
were glad to be a part of their memories.
Dee came up once again bearing gifts from the south, even bringing Ban along. After a long drive from LA, she was able
to prove to Jackson that one person in the family did not have terminal buck fever! She managed a harvest of an Elk
between books. Jackson had a moment and got the wrong bull, but Dee was so gracious that his ego didn't take too big
a hit!
This season we enjoyed the company of many family groups and we believe it made the season that much more special.
Brothers, and Uncles, father and mothers, husbands and wives. Through it all, each and every one was a joy to have
in camp. I don't think many can honestly boast a season such as that. So many clients, from so many walks of life
came together to enjoy some common ground and each other's company. The season brought some pretty hot weather early
on, and some really cold and snowy weather later on. Both extremes making for some tough hunts. There were clients
who went home empty handed. As Outfitters we always hope that you're being truthful when you say you're happy with
the effort put forth on your behalf. We had some hard hunting days, but we got some really great trophies and we
got to see you all at your best. There was so much laughter and shared memories and that's what we are going to
remember most about 2012. Thank you to you all.
